(From Our Patea Correspondent.)

On Saturday last seven rinks from the Bowling 'Olub visited Patea and played a friendly match with members of the local club, with the following result (Waverlev mentioned first) : Salter, Horton, Howie, R. Palmer 24; Finlay, Boyle, Ormsby, F. McKenna 20. McWilliams, Hunter, Parsosn, W. Muir 11; Power, Harris, A. Christensen, C. Shealian 28.

Aiken, Taylor, Spratt, Ballison 35; D. .Tones, Papps, C. Christensen, F. Williams 16.

Raynor, Currie, Napier, J. Palmer 18; Glennv, Herbert. J. Paterson, Elliot 31. Lament, Madelev, Robertson, Mathieson 8; Edwards, Mercer, T. Shealian, W. Paterson 87.

Morrison McGorvery, Nicholls, James 33; Delargey, Stanford, P. Bourlie, G. Williams 23.

J. Muir, Beer, Wicks, Verry 16; Dwyer, Deane, McKenna, Carey-33. Totals: Patea 188, Waver ley 145. Majority for Patea 43. ELTIIAM COMPETITIONS. The various tournaments being conducted by the Eltliam Bowling Club have now reached an interesting stage. In the championship singles contest, which has reached the fifth round, E. Bary, T. Johnson, and J. Summers remain in, while C. Rowe and J. R. M. Stewart play on Friday, although the round was due to close on January 26. From the way ho is playing at- present, Bary should win the championship (says the Argus). Four men, with one loss each, will fight out the semifinals of the colts’ handicap. They are F. Clemow, J. Carroll, F. Vincent and Clark. The ultimate winner is obscure, as colts are not altogether consistent in their play. In the early series Clemow looked all over a winner, but he was beaten by Carroll. Only three bowlers are left in the handicap singles. F.. Clemow, who receives 12 points, has woii all his matches, as has also E. Bary. Till the week-end, McKay still had two lives, but he went down to Bary, who will play another match with McKay. If the popular club secretary is beaten again, he retires from the- tournament, leaving Clemow and Bary to play the final. With his liberal handicap, Clemow will only need to be near his form on the day and |ie will win the event.. The handicap pairs tournament has not resulted 1 in a great number of o-ames being played. Johnson and Clemow (scr) have'played five games and •lost one. Bary and Vincent (scr) have three wins and . one loss to their credit, while Astbury and Best (3) have won their three matches. As the latter pair have beaten Vincent and Bary, they have bright chances of winning the trpohies.
