APPEAL FOR HELP IGNORED
MORE INTEREST TN SWIMMING RACE.

At the inquest or, William Alex R'ainham, aged 6i years, who was drowned on Saturday afternoon, the evidence showed that A. J. White, a man nearly 72 year® of age, and who was unable to swim, endeavoured to rescue the boy but without success. He appealed to a number of people who were watching a swimming race to go to. the assistance of the boy. but no 'one took any notice a,ml the little chap was left to drown. The coroner, Mr. J. 8. Barton, commended Mr. White, for his to save the boy, and commented strongly on the callous attitude of those who ignored the appeal for help.
