CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
MONTHLY AIFJETING. There were present at tire ordinary meeting of the Chamber the president (Air. El. Dixon), and Messrs. J. B. Murdoch, H. N. Alatthews, . E. C. Fletcher, B. McCarthy, P. Bond, A. Blair. H. Burdekin, F ; . W. Horner, 0. IV. Stubbs, and R. S. Sage (secretary). , RAILWAY QUESTIONS. Most of the evening was .deyotedi to railways matters ,the business agent, Mr. AlcNeill, being present. A report of the discussion appears in another column. RETAILERS. A report -was given by Mr. McCarthy on the meeting. with the Re - tailers’ Association in regard, to amalgamation. He said,: their main objection was fear lest they should lose their- identity. He' 'Suggested that this might be got oyer by appointing members of the >' other body on, the executive. a,s it was generally recognised the Chamber’s influence would be increased by the amalgamation. It was resolved that a further conference be held with the retailers on Thursday, and a. report submitted to next meeting. NFJW MEMBERS. Messrs. C. Hay Mackenzie and J. H., Hiall were elected members and, in order to galvanise new life into the Chamber, .it was agreed that every member present should submit a nomination for a, new member at next meeting. TOLL-GATES. This matter was brought up and briefly discussed, and it was resolved to defer action, if any were considered necessary, until next ordinary meeting. MANAIA. CHAMBER.. The secretary reported that, he had forwarded a copy of the rules to the newly-iformed Alanaia Chamber of Commerce. Alembers expressed the hope that the new body would have a long career and do valuable work for the district. : 1
