RACING AT GISBORNE. FIRST DAY’S RESULTS. LBX TELEGRAPH- —PMFSS ASSOCIATION .) GISBORNE, Feb. 5. The Gisborne Racing Club’s summer meeting opened to-day in fin© weather. There was* a large attendance, and the going was good. The totalisator investments were £14,965, compared with £11,676 on the first day last year, an increase of £3289. Results: First Handicap Hurdles, one mile and a half. —Monte (J. Nixon) 1, Demagogue 2, Iverokero 3.. Also started: Birka, Damon, Whispering Sam. Won by a head, a neck between second and third. Time, 2.50. Te Hapara Hack Handicap, seven furlongs.—White Ensign (J. Dunn) 1, Polvphemus 2, French Park 3. Also started : Callb'oy. Won by two lengths, four lengths between second and third. Time, 1.27 3-5. Wi Pere Memorial, six furlongs.— Civilform (J. Nixon) 1, Startle 2, Good Sport 3. Also started: Koodoo, Scotch Mixture. Won by a neck, a head between second and third. Time, 1.14. THE CUP MEETING

The Taranaki Jockey Club’s Cup meeting takes place on Thursday and Saturday next, February 12 and 14, and everything points to a most successful gathering. Splendid nominations have been received, so that good fields are assured, and with many of the Dominion’s best handicap horses competing, as well as youngsters from stables of the foremost breeders and owners, the racing all through should be of h very high standard. The response bv owners and trainers in the Juvenile‘and Nursery Handicaps has been most encouraging to the club, and patrons of the forthcoming meeting will have the opportunity of seeing some of the most promising youngsters in action. The 11th Taranaki Stakes, too. should produce a stirring struggle, and so should the other events' which go to make up the best programme this popular club has ever provided. Tt is right up with the times.
