AUSTRALIAN ATHLETES.

TOUR OF DOMINION

HAWERA OFFERED A MEETING

(By Telegraph—Special to Star.)

WELLINGTON, Feb. 5: The Ncw Zealand Amateur Athletic Council has drawn up a tentative programme for the tour of L. C. Parker and N. Grehan, Queensland sprinters, who are at present in Wellington. The proposal at the present time is for the tour to commence at Napier on the 14th inst. if the remaining members of the Australian team, who are expected to be leaving Sydney to-day for Auckland, will join up with Grehan and Parker at Napier. On account of the races at Gisborne, a meeting in honour of the visitors cannot be arranged at present for that town. It is proposed that the Australians will go from Napier to Pahiatua, where a meeting is being held on the 18th inst. The visitors will compete at a meeting in Wellington on the 21st. inst. Hawera has been offered a visit on the 25th, and the team will afterwards appear at the New Zealand championships at Wanganui on the 27th and 28th.

In the event of suitable arrangements being made, the Australians will then visit the South Island, dates for meetings having been suggested by the council as follows: March 4, Timaru; March 7, Christchurch ; March 11, Invercargill ; March 14, Dunedin. Further meetings are in doubt, the council not knowing as yet how long the visitors are to remain in the Dominion. There is a possibility, however, of a meeting at Auckland and a test meeting at Wellington. The council is prepared to take the risk of sending the athletes to' Christchurch and Dunedin, and in return it expects the net profits. Word was received to-day that the Otago Centre was prepared to run a meeting on March 14 under the conditions stated by the council. VISITORS BEATEN. IN TOO YARDS AT WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Feb. 5.
