SWIMMING.
CARNIVAL AT RAWER A. SITCCESSFCL EVENING. Conditions were ideal for the swimming carnival at the baths last night, and the result was a most successful evening. There were good entries for each event, and many close finishes resulted. The spectators thoroughly enjoyed the evening’s sport, and gave the contestants an enthusiastic reception.
The big event of the evening was the 75 yards men’s handicap, and in this great interest was taken. This was, however, lessened by the fact that no outside swimmers were present. The races throughout the programme were closely contested, and in most cases the results showed the good work of the handicappers. Races resulted as under :

There will be another carnival tonight. and it is expected there will be a contingent of swimmers from other parts, including the champions of New Plymouth and Wanganui. Rawson, F. W. Grant and. Mis® P. Brant (all of Hawera). Entries have been received from the Otpupiake, New Phono nth, Inglewood and Eltham Clubs. The great attraction of to-night’s Carnival will lie the swimming of Dowsett (AVanganui), who. last year at the New Zealand championship®, although, swimming in the intermediate class, put up faster time for the 100 yards than did the men.
