DR. MARY KEENE.
WOMAN PROFESSOR OF ANATOMT Dr. Mary Lucas Keene is the first woman professor of anatomy in the world (says the London Daily Mail). Dr. Keene was recently appointed by the University of London to the Chair of Anatomy in the London (Royal Free Hospital) School of Medicine for Women. She is 38 years old. Long years in the dissecting room seepn to have left her unaffected, for she is full of good humour, almost of high spirits. “When I first began dissection I did not like it very much,” she said to a Daily Mail reporter, “but I became used to it.” For several years she has shared her room at the school with the skeleton of Professor Cullimore, a teacher of literature, who died at the age of 28, and whose body was bequeathed to the school in 1907. The anatomy department of which -Professor Keene is now head is the only school of anatomy in the country solely for women.
