NELSON CHAMPIONSHIPS. CBY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) NELSON, Feb. 3. The Nelson provincial lawn ’ tennis championship tournament was concluded this afternoon after a very successful meeting. The new courts recently laid down were used, and they played splendidly. A good standard of tennis was shown, several young competitors showing great promise. They should be heard of in the future. The results of the finals were: Men’s handicap singles.—R. Everett. Men’s handicap doublesr : —F. Snodgrass and J. Hodgson. Combined handicap doubles.—Miss M. Robison and C. Clark. Men’s championship singles.—C. Mayo (Wellington). Ladies’ championship singles.—Miss S. Acheson. Ladies’ combined doubles.—Mrs T. Whitwell and Miss J. Clark. Boys’ championship singles.—R. Lucas. Girls’ championship singles.—Miss D. St. John. Ladies’ handicap doubles.—Miss Acheson and Mrs Campbell Smith. Men’s championship 'doubles. —Lucas and Townsend. U S.A. TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA

SY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT NEW YORK, Feb. 2. At the next meeting of the United States Tennis Association, a recommendation will be made to send two players this year to compete in the English and French championships, and two to Australia next year. Americans have participated in * the English and French championships in the past, hut not as official representatives. The Australian invasion will depend upon America’s success in the Davis Cup this vear.

The Davis Chip contest committee decided to instruct the national association’s representative at the international tennis federation meeting, in Paris to vote in favour of the international federation having jurisdiction over Olympic tennis, also to vote in favour of the admission of AustriaHungary, Egypt, Italv and Ireland as members.
