PROFESSIONALS FOR NEW I ZEALAND. (13 Y TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 2. Mr Sutton, secretary of the New Zealand Golf Association, has received a cable from Mr A. J. Abbott, London, advising that a second professional for the association has been selected out of many applicants. The man engaged is Lindsay Ross, u member of the wellknown golfing family. Both lie and the first man selected* (Dean) leave England by the Tainui on February 19. Their services will be available to clubs requiring them from April onwards. HAW ERA MEN’S CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. There was a good attendance of members of the Men’s Golf Club present at the annual, general meeting, and also at the special meeting held previously, Mr E. C. Fletcher (president) in the chair. At the special meeting the question of purchase of the course over which members of the club have played for several years was reconsidered by special request. The scheme has been discussed very fully at previous general meetings and at meetings of the committee. Some weeks ago the question was left for the committee to deal .vith. They decided that, the price asked by the owners was too much, and definitely turned down the proposal. The club offered £41500 for about 162 acres, and the owners’ figure was £SOOO. . After a long discussion last night, in which the advocates of purchase at the’ higher price put their proposal, a vote was taken, and the motion to 'buy rejected by a large majority. The annual meeting then was held. The report congratulated members on the success of the past season, both as regards the state of the course and the keenness of competition at various matches played during the season. The balance-sheet disclosed a. healthy state of affairs and a substantial balance on the year’s working. Reference was made ‘to the long ‘ but unsuccessful negotiations between the club and the Tonics’ Estate in reference to the course and the fact that at present the club was without a course. It ,was stated, however, that the committee had several properties in view for inspection. Election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr S. C. Tonks; president, Mr E. C. Fletcher; vice-presi-dent. Mr C. Hay Mackenzie; captain, Mr F. W. Sutton; secretary, Mr N. Caplen; general committee, Messrs E. Beechev. W. O. Williams. J. Sturrock, A. J. Glasson and G. J. Bayley; match nnd handicap committee, Messrs E. Beechev (seniors) and A. E. Gorton (juniors). The appointment of a green committee and the fixing of the subscription was left to the general committee. with power to act. A hearty vote of thanks to the outgoing officers and to the Winter Show Executive for use of the room was carried, and the meeting terminated.
