The president of the Football Club wrote requesting a rebate on the charges for the use of the park for the past season from. £22 10s. to £l7 10s. Cr Taplin opposed the application, stating that the trouble with most sports bodies was mismanagement, and if the local club was so hard up it should apply to the union for assistance. Cr Nairn seconded the motion.
Cr Bridger said that he was in favour of giving the matter favourable consideration, hut. in the absence, of a financial statement from the club we could not judge what their position was. Last year the club paid the council 10s, and this year they offer £l7 10s, which appears to he a reasonable offer. He was of opinion that the matter should be referred to the Reserves Committee for consideration. Cr Taylor moved as an amendment that the application be referred to the Reserves Committee, and Cr Lewis seconded. , The Mavor said that the representative matches played in Eltham were a good advertisement to the town, and we should encourage the sport locally. He was in favour of granting the club a reduction. Much of the chib’s funds had been used in travelling by young members who could not afford to pay much themselves. Crs Campbell. King and Thomas supported this view, and on being put the amendment to refer the application to the Reserves Committee was carried. ELECTRIC LIGHT.
