HAWERA BRANCH MEETING. There was a good attendance at the ordinary monthly meeting of the Hawera, branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union on Thursday afternoon,' Mrs, Reed presiding. A vote of condolence was unanimously passed with Airs. Lille in the bereavement she sustained by the death of her son. A letter was received from Airs. Burge, resigning her position as treasurer on account of illness. It was decided, on the motion of Airs. Young, to cordially thank Airs. Burge for her services and to aegent her resignation with the utmost rdgret. On the motion of Airs. Bone, seconded by Mrs. Tait, it was decided that Airs. Pinney be appointed to fill the vacant treasnrership. Airs. Tait signified her willingness to assist Airs. Pinney. It was decided on the motion of Airs Tait., seconded by Airs Reed, tliai Mosel allies Bone and Ex ley bo appointed to represent the Hawera branch at the W.C.T.U. Convention to he held in Dunedin shortly.
Airs. Duxfield, president of the Wanganui branch, is to he asked to give an address on the subject of temperance at the next monthly meeting, when the members will he the guests of ADs. Corrv at a garden party at her residence in Glover Road. Airs. Hulbert and Airs. Curtis were appointed to take charge of the arrangements for a social evening to he held in conjunction with the next meeting. Some discussion took place as to the appeal for support by the AVillard Home, Palmerston North, and it was decided that action he deferred. Airs. Young will read a paper on Oho merits of the institution at the next meeting.
