UNEMPLOYMENT IN N.S.W. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Jan. 31, 10.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 31. According to the report of the Department of Labour, the unemployed at the end Of December in the metropolitan area numbered 3500 and in the country districts 3000. The decrease in the metropolitan area is due to an improvement in the number of manufacturing industries and to Christmas relief works.

STATE BRICKWORKS. The Auditor-General’s report on the State brickworks at Homebush for last financial year says the profit for the trading period was £27,511, the greatest on record. This result was achieved by selling at a kiln price of approximately 20 shillings a thousand less than private firms.
