SYDNEY’S BIG POWER SCHEME. LORD MAYOR RESENTS INTERFERENCE. 8Y CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION--COPYRIGHT. SYDNEY, Jan. 30. The Hon. Mr. Ball, Minister of Works, says that there is no justification for the three million power scheme proposed to be put in hand by the Sydney City Council. He declared that a Government inquiry into the production of electricity would beheld, the object being to protect consumers. The Lord Mayor stated that if the Government interfered with the internal management or extension of the council’s electricity department the Labour Party would make such interference a main issue in the coming political campaign. He indicated that the council would be prepared to enter into an arrangement for interconnection of the generating plants of the council and the Railway Commissioners, in order to effect certain economies.
