WOMEN FOR THE NEXT WAR.

. U.S. SCHEME FOR AX ARMY OF AMAZONS. An Amazon army is planned by the United States War Department, which is now studying a scheme designed to give women a recognised -place “in all branches of the military ' service, in case of future emergency involving a maximum effort.” The plan, which is at present at a tentative stage, may lead to the formation, as a distinct , and separate branch of the military service, of a reserve women’s army corps hv voluntary enlistment, says a despatch to the Chicago Tribune. It is even possible that this women’s army will be commanded by a woman general attached to the general staff.
