At the meeting of the South Taranaki Automobile Association last night, Messrs A. C. Pease, F/. H. Harrop, H. Burdekin, and ,T. Higham were elected members. The death has occurred at Havelock North of the daughter of one of Taranaki’s earliest settlers—namely, Mrs. Thomas Leedom, at the age of 82 years. Before marriage Mrs. Leedom was a Miss Grvlls, one of a family of two boys and four girls, all of whom, with, their parents, went through the trying times experienced in Taranaki during the sixties. Of the family only two remain—Mrs. Walter Black and Mrs. James Loveridge.
At the conclusion of the lucerne growing competitions yesterday at Otakeho, a well-deserved tribute was paid to Messrs Deem and Glasson, of the Agricultural Department, by the nresident of the local branch of the Farmers’ Union. In his remarks Mr Burke said that the members appreciated very fully all that these two gentlemen had done for them, and were most grateful for their good work. Tt was, however, felt that a change of judges would give a different point of view, and its value for this reason was the only cause for making the change. Thev recognised all that Messrs Deem and Glasson had done for the local farmers and for the industry in general.
