SAVING INDIA’S BABIES,

' CALCUTTA, Jan. 10. A determined effort has been made during some months past to deal with the appalling infantile mortality in India by a series of “Baby Weeks,” during which Indian mothers were instructed in proper methods of bringing up their children. To finance such a scheme a movement has been started in Calcutta under the patronage of the Vicereine, Lady Reading. A quarter of a mile in the principal thoroughfare lias been marked off, and subscribers have been invited to lay down their rupee contributions side by side, thus making a quarter of a mile road of silver. Lady Reading started by subscribing three vards of ruoees.
