STRANGE RAILWAY SMASH.
TRAIN PARTS AT POINTS. A remarkable railway accident occurred at tlie Granville station, on the Adelaide to Semaphore line, the other day, when the engine and front bogie of the leading coach of a train took the down line, while the rear bogie of the coach and five other carriages turned into the up line. The tracks diverge sharply at this point, and the rear bogie of the first coach was torn off, and the hack of the carriage hung by the couplings: The fore-carriage of the second coach was derailed, and ploughed up the permanent way, smashing through the interlocking roads and dislocating the interlocking gear of the whole junction. There were about 10 passengers on the train, and all escaped with a shaking. The guard and porter on the leading coach jumped clear. Traffic to Semaphore was interrupted until 10 o’clock, and normal service was not restored until 3 o’clock. It is thought the points may have been moved after the engine and front bogie of the lending coach passed over them.
