Convinced that the radio, the theatre <and the phonograph are in a battle that may mean the destruction of one or more of them, an organisation of all elements comprising the American: theatre to- consider the encroachments of radio and to safeguard the stage -as a. national institution was provided for in resolutions adopted at a. conference of the Actors’ Equity Association.

Mr. William Brady, producer and manager, declared that radio was rapidly eliminating the ,legitimate and musical comedy stage, and that some theatres played to forty per cent, reduced receipts as a result of the radio invasion.
