TO AID ATHLETIC SPORTS.

It is scarcely to the credit of Hawera, so well equipped in the matter of playing fields, that there should be no proper dressing accommodation either lor local or visiting teams. But the lack is one which may easily be overcome; those towns which have dressing sheds and sljowei-baths; enough, but are sta.iwed of athletic grounds, are in a much worse fix. 'lhe special effort which has been launched to raise funds for the erection, of buildings which shall be worthy of the district, and of its enviable record in athletic achievement, should not require' the publicity which we are so ready to give. Tire need is apparent, therefore the appeal should be instant and the response generous. If the larger scheme, embodying besides dressing and bathing facilities a fully equipped training hall and gymnasium, be not within reach, of the community at the moment, every mind should he concentrated on the nearer goal ; but the full vision should be kept in view as the ultimate aim. Furthermore, the movement is not one to be restricted to the followers, of one particular game; it concerns all who play upon the Park or the show ground adjoining, and calls above all for united action. AncJ if those who themselves have passed beyond the ■active playing age stiil treasure happy memories of the years when it was not so, then here is an opportunity to Jo something for the games which have meant so much fo them. There is no necessity that the building shall be anything beyond a contribution to the progress of the town and district; hut if South Taranaki should wish to make some acknowledgment of the wonderful performance of the All Blacks—and especially to honour those who are coining home to this province—we can think of no more fitting record than, the erection of a ball snob as is proposed.
