RAILWAY FACILITIES.
THE NEW STATION
DEPARTMENTAL R EPLY
A long and uncommittal letter, received by Mr. J. R l . Corrigan. M.P.. from the Minister ot Railways, was briefly discussed at the last Chamber of Commerce meeting. The letter, which was the result of one sent through the member from the Chamber, stated the whole position, whether the station is to be moved, depended on the. “trend of traffic m Taranaki as the new railway works now in, hand approach completion.” On that rested the question whether Hawe-ra, would continue to be a subterminal station,, and therefore it would not be prudent to come to a definite decision in the matter. _ In view of this uncertainty the Minister stated that the plans as previously outlined were- held over and a sum of £20,000 was voted so as to make “such provision for contingencies at Hawera as would enable the business of the department to be carried on there with a reasonable degree of satisfaction.”.. The sum is for the purpose of enabling such lbeasures to be taken, for whatever scheme may ultimately be found to be-,desirable.
