(by TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, Jan. 24.

A large body of men are engaged in clearing away the gravel at Taratu mine, and it is expected to recover the body of James McGowan, who was crushed to death by a fall of gravel and timber, this afternoon. Mr. Cheeseman, manager of the Taratu Company, states that the survivor, David Jordon, who has now completely recovered, told him that the air in the portion of the mine . where he was imprisoned was quite good owing to the fact that there was a broken water pipe in the shaft which connected with the surface.
