SNOW IN NEW YORK.

16,000 SWEEPERS BUSY

NEW YORK, Jan. 3

New York is in the clutches of a 12in fall of snow, which has delaved all taffic, including that of steamships. Sixteen hundred men are engaged in the removal of the snow. Five persons were killed in the snowstorm. The municipality will have to spend 1,000,000 dollars (£200,000) removing the snow.

Urban Ledoux, better known as ‘‘Mr. Zero,” the champion of New York’s unemployed, announces the establishment of a “front factory,’’ in which unfortunates may enter and change their tattered garments for whole ones, get barbered and bathed, and otherwise fitted.

“Zero’ says that a good front, otherwise a neat appearance, brings success when seeking employment.
