"ULTRA-CAUTIOUS."
Play for. the test matches between England and Australia is of the ultracareful type, according to Mr. T. R. Cress well,’ principal of Wellington College, who has just returned from a visit to Australia. Mr. Cresswell attended the first and second test matches at Sydney and Melbourne, and states that the batting throughout was too cautious to be exhilarating. He considers that England could have won the second test had the batsmen, when they had the Australian bowling well collared on the sixth day, only adopted more resolute methods. Instead of belting the tired howling, the English, batsmen elected to play for safety, with the result that the Australian, bowlers, refreshed by the night’s rest, got rid of the remainder of the side cheaply the next, morning, and the Australians scored their’ second win.
