AUCTIONEERS’ NOTE. -- Messrs. Bayly Bros, have been breeding Romneys on thoroughly practical lines for the last 20 years, and have paid particular attention to constitution, size and bone, with special attention to evenness of fleece and freedom •of coarseness in breech, and have culled very heavily each year in order to produce the type they have been aiming at, with the result that their Romney sheep have now arrived at a very nigh standard indeed. Money has not been spared in the selection of sires for their flock, and prices from 150 to 200 guineas have been freely paid for suitable sires from the flocks of the late Mr E. Short and during the last /10 years from Mr A. Matthews’ well-known flock. During the last 12 years no other than “Karaniu” bred rams have been used with •the flock ewes. Mr \V. C. Small, who passed the flock for the Romney Marsh Breeders’ Association. reports on them as follows:“I think I can safely say this flock is the best I have ever seen offered to tne public. The sheep are most topical, with even fleeces, good bone -and beautifully covered/’ . Such praise from such an authority carries its own conviction.
