ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) SUCCESSFUL SWIMMING CARNIVAL. The first sports run under the auspices of the Eltham Swimming Club were held in the school baths last evening, and were well attended. The weather was perfect for the patrons, although a little cold for fhe competitors. The officials carried out their duties well, and the events were started on time. There was a large number of competitors, including the best swimmers from all parts of Taranaki, and the events were keenly contested. The competitors were entertained to supper after the sports, and the president (Mr A. 0. Casey) presented the trophies won. The following is the list of winners: 50vds Men’s, Club. —S. Cooper 1, L. Cooper 2. 25yds Ladies’ Inter-club.—G. Syme (Eltham) .and K. Taylor (Hawera) dead heat. 50yds Men’s Inter-club. —Thirty-five starters and run in seven heats, the final result being: McGonagle (New Plymouth) 1, Roberts (New Plymouth) 2. ! Diving.—Penman (New Plymouth) 1, Miss K. Taylor (Hawera) 2. Ribbon Dive.—Collins (New Plymouth) 1, Twoomey (Hawera) 2. 100yds Men’s Inter-club.—Galbraith (New Plymouth) 1, Grant (Hawera) 2. This was a very keenly contested event, and the finish was a close one. 50yds Men’s Breaststroke.—-MeQuin ('Eltham) 1, Hoffman (New Plymouth) 2. Relay Race.—The following teams competed: New Plymouth, Inglewood, Fitzroy, High School, Stratford, Hawera and Eltham, the latter being declared the winners of this exciting event. 50vds Ladies’ Breaststroke.—Miss K. Taylor (Hawera) 1, Miss P. Brant (Hawera) 2. 50yds Ladies’ Inter-olub.—Miss P. Brant (Hawera) 1, Miss G. Syme (Eltham) 2. 25yds Men’s Inter-club. —Spragg (Hawera) 1, McGonagle (New Plymouth) 2.
