DEMAND FOR WOOL. PRICES AT DUNEDIN. / 6BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, Jan. 23. The second of the series of Dunedin wool sales for the present season was commenced at eight o’clock this evening. There is a total catalogue at 18,_ 065 bales to be offered, and of this quantity 4580 bales were offered by three selling agents. Bnyei's were stronger numerically than at the December sales. Bradford was again the mainstay throughout and operated in all classes. Continental buyers were mainly interested in Jaw and medium wools/
The sale opened somewhat slowly, but brightened before fifty lots had been disposed of, and at the close bidding was quite keen. The first catalogue offered consisted of 2308 bales, and of these 110 were passed. As regards prices, there was little difference as compared w ith the December sale, except in the case of was tv and heavy conditional merinos, which deprecated slightly in value. Fine halfbreds sold at quite up to the prices of the last sales, supers selling at from 25d to 271 d. Merinos were irregular, and shabbier kinds were not being sought after. Crossbreds were somewhat slow of sale, and prices w'ere a little erratic. Super crossbreds realised 28tl to 29d. and second quality 25i)d to 264 d. Bellies and prices were well comoeted for, and sold at late rates. Hal.fbred prices brought up to 25|fd, merino prices to 24ijd, and crossbred prices as high as 23^d.
