FRANCE’S FLEET.

RECONSTRUCTION PLANS. France’s new naval programme, as outlined in the, report of the Chamber of Deputies Commission, calls for the complete reconstruction of the fleet at a cost of 10,000,000,0011 francs. The work is to be spread over a period of '2O years. The programme provides for a high seas fleet consisting of 178,000 tons of battleships, 360,000 tons of cruisers and destroyers, 65,000 tons ol submarines and 150,000 tons of special craft.

Out of the 1925 appropriation of 1,300,000.000 francs, 500,000,000 will be expended on the building of secondary slaps, the construction of ships of the line not to be assumed until 1932. The Mediterranean fleet will receive particular attention.
