TO-NIGHT’S CARNIVAL.
SPORTS AT SHOW GROUND. Everything points to a most successful gathering at the Show Ground tonight, when the Hawera Amateur Athletic Club’s electric light carnival will bring before the public some of the finest runners in the North Island. Paris and Priestly, front-rank sprinter and miler respectively from Wellington, and Fisher, of Wanganui, who will start from scratch in the hurdles, are all giving liberal starts to the best of the local men, but some close and exciting finishes are anticipated. The. meeting will rank as an official trial for tlie selection of the West Coast (North Island) team for the New Zealand championships, to be contested at Wanganui towards the end of next month, and there is hound to lie added keenness in to-night’s events on that account. The Hawera Municipal Band will he in attendance, and a feature of the evening will he the big fields of Cyclists.
