BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT

(Received Jatn. 22, 10.45 a.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 21. Mr Elder has returned after a two weeks’ sojourn at Washington, where he conferred with Secretary Hughes, Messrs Wilbur, Hoover aiid Howard, and met the President. Ihe commissioner discussed with Mi* Wilbur the projected, visit of the fleet, and further advanced the suggestion that a delegation of American business and professional men should visit Australia with the fleet, or arrive there at the time of the fleet’s arrival. Both Messrs Wilbur and Hoover heartily endorsed the proposal, which will he further considered, following the Senate’s action on the Naval Appropriation Bill. Mr Wilbur informed Mr Elder that he had asked the State Department to communicate with the Australian Governor-General, through the British Embassy, details of the itinerary of the fleet, in order to enable the Australian Government to perfect their plans for its reception. Mr Elder everywhere found great enthusiasm for the Australian visit and deep friendship for the Australian people.
