FIRE CHIEF CHARGED.

SEQUEL TO MOTOR-CAR SMASH. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATIONCHRISTCHURCH. Jan. 21. At the Magistrate’s Court this morning, Charles Warner, superintendent of the Christchurch Fire Brigade, was charged with drunkenness while in charge of a motor-car, of using indecent- language, and behaving m a threatening manner. The case had been partly heard previously. Further witnesses for the prosecution said that the speed of the car before the smash was 35 or 40 miles per hour, and there was no doubt "Warner was drunk. After the smash he got into the car and attempted to, drive it, though the wheel was off. Sergeant Almond and a constable said that they interviewed Warner in th.-, fire station afterwards. He was then drunk and in a nasty temper. The sergeant denied the suggestion of counsel for the defence that bad feeling existed between them in reference Jo a recent fire. The case is proceeding.
