INFANTILE PARALYSIS

FURTHER PRECAUTIONS. RESTRICTIONS ON TRAVELLING. (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Jan. 20. The Minister for Health, Sir Alaui Pomaie, stated to-day that as a further precaution against the spread of infantile paralysis it decided, at a special meeting of Cabinet this morning, to prohibit children under 16 years of age from leaving either island for the other island after to-morrow night. In order, however, to minimise the inconvenience which may be caused to the public, permission to do so may be granted by the Health Department in case of a child absent from its home in the South Island, or vice versa, and desirous of returning home, so long as the district medical officer of health is satisfied that in the special case there is no ground for suggesting that infection may he thereby carried.

FRESH. CASES

PALMERSTON N., Jan. 20

Two fresh cases of infantile paralysis, one from Feilding and the other from Levin, have been admitted to the local hospital.

SPORTS POSTPONED

MANG A AVER A, Jan. 20.

The sports which were to he held on Anniversary Day, January 22, have been postponed until the Health Department’s embargo is lifted.

The Hawera Borough Council notify occupiers of shops, offices, etc., that disinfected sawdust will he distributed throughout business areas on Thursday, January 22, and, if necessary, on Friday, January 23, also.
