BIDDING WELL SUSTAINED
(By Telegraph.—Special to the Star.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 19. The New Zealand Tar an and Mercantile Agency Cb. reports : The third Wellington wool of the season, which, commenced on Saturday evening, was concluded this afternoon. By the direction of the recently appointed wool committee, the total offering was fixed at 25,000 bales. This limitation is believed, to have had a. good effect on the prices obtained. There was a. good attendance of buyers, representing the trade *of ino&t m ami fatcuring countries. Bidding, although not keen, was well sustained. The bulk of the support came from Bradford buyers, and a fair quantity was secured for the Continent. American buyers were more in evidence at to-d'a.y’s sale, but not much suitable wool was available. It is estimated that fine wools were from halfpenny to penny per pound lower; on the other hand, coarser qualities were from a farthing to halfpenny per 1b better. Pieces, bellies and looks sold particularly well, at distinctly better prices than in December. The demand for lambs wia.s rather erratic, but prices firme’d a-s the sale progressed. .Clips classed and binned by us in the fetore elicited , keen competition and very excellent prices were realised. GOOD SALE AT SYDNEY. ny CABLE—PRESS ASSOCT ATTON—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY. Jan. 19. At the wool sales the hulk of the offerings was of good quality. Bidding opened strongly and continued brisk throughout. Prices for all descriptions equal last week’s late rates.
