DEHAR’S FAMOUS OPER'A,
“THE MERRY WIDOW.”
In the coming production of the famous comic opera, “The Merry Widow.” Miss Gladys Moncrieff will he seen in her great impersonation of “Sonia.” v A revival of the incomparable comic opera,'“The Merry Widow,” undoubtedly the most popular musical play of a decade, .is. always welcome. No comic opera of recent years has won such universal approbation, and theatre-goers revel again and again in Le liar’s bewitching music. This is largely due to the fact that it is really comic opera, and a, delightful change from the “jazzicaJ,” “revusieal” frivol of a deal of the so-called modern musical comedy. Be that as it may, “The Merry Widow” rarely fails to draw full houses, and it is without doubt a prime managerial asset. The coming production will be doubly interesting from the appearance of Miss Gladys Moncrieff as “The Merry Widow.”
This clever and favourite artist is -spoken of by Australian critics as. being supreme in the part, singing the music like a prima. donna, and acting the role like a- star comedienne. Also of special interest is the appearance of Leslie Holland .as the - debonnair “Prince Danilo,’ ’and Arthur Stigant a.s Baron Popoff. A number of specially clever people are in the long cast, including John, Ralston, Tom Moore and Hazel Meldrum; also Blake Adams, Harry Ratcliffe. William Perryman. Nellie Payne. Beryl Walkeley, Mabel Gibson., and Rene Gold, ft goes ■without saying that the production is likelv to be in the best style of J. C. Williamson. The season is for one night—at the Opera House Wednesday next. The box plans are now open a,t Cook’s (next Opera House).
