BOWLING.

PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP.

(by TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 17.

In the Dominion bowling tourney the contest for the pairs championship was continued on Saturday. Rain overnight made the greens less keen than has been the case. The best game was between Sexton (Newtown) and Pilkington (Hamilton), which went, to an extra head, Sexton winning by’ 19 points to 18. Ainger (New Brighton) will play lonian (North-East Valley) in the semi-final, and the winner will play Sexton in the final on Friday next (President’s Day). In the consolation singles, Benefield (St. John’s) beat Billcliffe (United, Christchurch) in the final.

CENTRE TOURNAMENT. Entries for the Taranaki Centre’s turnament closed on Saturday night, and the draw will no doubt be out tomorrow- or Wednesday. The gathering is one of the most enjoyable any bowler could imagine, and that there should be any difficulty in getting clubs to enter is hardly conceivable. It is understood that every club in the Centre is represented this year, even Park sending one rink, which, although composed practically of colts, may possibly do as well as more seasoned players. Hawera Club is always well represented, and on more than one occasion have carried off the big honours. Given fine weather, the tournament of 1925 should be a great success. Play commences on Tuesday morning, 27th inst. There will he twenty-five clubs rep resented by sixty rinks. These include, as well as Taranaki clubs, those from a greater distance, Wanganui, Main Trunk district, and one rink has entered from Takapuna (Auckland). The buttons changed hands on Saturday afternoon, Henderson, A. Grant, W. Grant and Goodwin beating the holders (Mahoney, Familton, Villars and Quin) by 31 to 18 points. Five rinks from the Waverley Club visited Rapanui, and after a close contest won the match by the narrow margin of four points. * For the handicap pairs competition at Patea there are no less than 15 entries, and this will ensure keen competition for the medal presented by Mr P.
