THE CATTLE TICK

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Re the cattle tick, I thought that this might interest some people. About 39 or 40 years ago the late Mr Short, of Scott road, Inaha, bought a lot of bullocks from some swamp country in North Auckland, and I remember him calling myself and Mr J. Muir (formerly a large farmer on the Plains) to-look at a. white bullock covered with ticks. Mr Short remarked that this was the real Queensland tick. Three or four more animals out of the same lot had them, but not so badly. I asked if there was any danger of it here, and he said it would not live any time here. I know that bullock was killed—a very heavy beast it was —and I_ never saw or heard of any more being infected.—l am, etc., W. T. WELLS. Manaia, Jan. 15.
