OCEAN GREYHOUND

AORANGI’S GOOD TRIP. PROVES A SPEEDY VESSEL. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Jan. 15, 1.45 p.m.) KINGSTON (Jamaica), Jan. 14. The Union Company’s new steamer Aorangi arrived at Kingston on the 14th. Despite 17 hours’ storm and delay by Atlantic gales lasting three days, the Aorangi arrived to schedule time, actually reducing speed. Her best 24 hours’ steaming was 428 knots. Chief Engineer Crawford confirms the opinion that the engines are a triumph, averaging without being extended over 17 knots per hour, although only 16 were intSJfcLd. Engine-room temperature in tnetropics was 25 per cent below the customary average.
