THAMES HARBOUR
MINISTER INAUGURATES SCHEME
(by TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) THAMES, Jan. 13.
, Sir James Parr (Minister for Education) and the Hon. G. J. Anderson (Minister for Labor) visited Thames today, the former from the South and the latter from Coromandel. Sir James Parr was accorded a civic reception, which was attended by the burgesses. The Mayor congratulated him on the honour recently accorded him, which was reflected also on the Thames, Sir James' Parr being an old resident and educated there. Air Anderson, at the invitation of the Harbour Board, performed the ceremony of driving the first pile on the new wharf, making the start of a harbour scheme involving £60,000. He optimistically referred to the great advantages Thames possessed as an outlet for a large district, which made a harbour essential. He congratulated the borough on assuming liability for a loan covering the proposed works, which was the start of a small scheme, which, if successful, would encourage a start on major schemes, whereby overseas vessels could berth.
