DE GARIS CASE
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS. BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT. SYDNEY, Jan. 12. Police headquarters have now no doubt that the man aboard the Maheno is De Garis. It is thought that he arrived in Sydney disguised as a woman. Additional writs have been issued in Melbourne bv the Bank of New South Wales, one 'being against Mrs. De Garis for £9355. The latest wireless from the Maheno states that the passenger‘Leslie fitted the description of the mysterious Mr. Young, and resembled Degaris. The police theory that Degaris reached Sydney disguised as a female is founded on the discovery of a plait of hair in the room occupied by “Mr. Young” at the Mortlake Hotel. Degaris prided himself on being an adept at female impersonation. As no direct train from Melbourne was available, it is suggested that it was impossible for Degaris to arrive at the Mortlake Hotel at the time he did, but it is pointed out that ho could, and probably did. motor to Goulburn, and caught the train thence to Sydney.
