TEST MATCH RECORDS
(Referee.) Mr. L. J. Henderson writes: Much has been written and said about records broken and equalled in the first Test match of 1924-25. And after a careful study of the 105 Matches played., X have compiled a. fresh 1 is-C, which, I think, will interest readers of the Rteferee. To commence, the attendance and takings are records. J. B. Hobbs registered his seventh century in Test matches. J. B. Hobbs’ aggregate of runs is 1997—the greatest by an Englishman. Never before in » Test match have two batsmen signalised tlieir first appearance by scoring centuries. H. L. Collins and W. H. Ponsford added 190 for the second wicket, and J. M. Taylor and A. A. Mailey’s 127 for the tenth wicket are Australian records.
No Test match has, previously entered upon the seventh day. The number of balls, bowled in the match, 3718, is a record.
The eight-ball over was employed for the first time.
Mr. W. Tate delivered 712 balls in the match, beating the previous best by 4. Tate fell nine balls short of the record for -an innings. England's second innings total of 411 is a record for the fourth innings of a match. Three of the four innings passed 400 —a. record. Both Australia’s innings passed 400—a record. Never before have bowlers’ figures reached 100 runs in a match eight times. •
A. A. Mai ley, in having 308 runs scored off him . holds the record for runs against a bowler in a match in the series.
Australia Iras plnved II matches and not suffered a- reverse. Amount Englishmen who have played 10 matches and over. ,T. B. Hobbs with 51.2 beads the batting average, and with the execution of A. Trott (200 runs in five innings, three not out. average 103.001. TT. L. CVdliirs (57.28) reigns supreme for Australia.
