AMERICA’S NAVY

APPROPRIATION BILL. BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION COPYRIGHT. WASHINGTON, Jan. S. The Navy Appropriation Bill, carrying 298,779,786 dollars, was reported to the Senate by the Naval Affairs Committee to-day. The committee added 896,350 dollars to the Bill as passed by the House, but left it <OOO dollais under the Budget estimate. Senate action is expected shortly. Additional funds for ordnance supplies, which item embraces funds for the' Australian cruise, ale embodied in the new Bill. The committee increased the amount hv 375,000 dollars to 12,107,000 dollars, which the Navy Department had requested through the Budget Bureau. This makes available all the funds the department wanted when it contemplated the Pacific cruise. There is no mention of the plans for the visit in the report, and no copy of the testimony taken during the hearing before the appropriations committee of the Senate has been given out. hut it 'is understood that the Secretary for the Navy (Mr. \\ ilbur) apprised the members of the committee of the plans when he was giving evidence. His testimony is practically a duplication of that given before the appropriation committee of the House.
