TARANAKI TOURNAMENT

SUCCESSFUL OPENING DAY

\ very large crowd of inteiested spectators saw the opening rounds m the annual tournament at New J V mouth yesterday. Aluch good form was shown, while the courts were in capital order and played really well. About one hundred and sixty playesr are competing, including Bartleet and Fotheringham (the crack Aucklanders), Lowry (of Cambridge and Hawke's Bav),* Smyth (Wellington), Wallace (Waverley), Webster (New Plymouth). The general arrangements, in the hands of Air. J. B. AVilson (secretary) and his committee, are all very complete, and everything has gone without a hitch.
