(From Our Own Correspondent). On Tuesday night, December 30, a .a.rge gathering assenibled in our local iail to bid farewell to the Ginger family, who for many years past have been held in the greatest esteem and iaved by all. who knew them. During the evening several games of euchre ■•. ere pltiveci, the lucky winners being: Ladies’ first prize, Mrs H. T. LovelL, tnd gentlemen’s first prize, Mr Lovell, while Miss Honeyfield scored the ladies’ consolation prize. Dancing was indulged in by the young folk. Many songs were contributed, and excellent music was supplied by local talent. Mr L. R. Hamilton, in presenting the guests of the evening each with a token of the respect and esteem in which they were held, eulogised their good qualities, and gave a brief outline if the state of the country and the stirring times through which the Gingers had passed, they being the oldest residents of Manutahi, having resided here far 52 years.

Mr Ginger feelingly responded. A bountiful supper was supplied by the ladies, and the singing of Auld Lang Sync brought a most enjoyable evening to a close.

Although tile Gingers are going to reside in Hawera, and will be sadly missed by all in Manutahi. their many deeds of kindness will not be forgotten. Mr and Mrs Barnes are spending a few weeks at the seaside, New Plymouth. Mrs F. Milham has been down to the Children’s Home to see her daughter. We are pleased to hear that Elaine is” well, and happy, and making good progress.
