OBITUARY.
MR THOMAS GOURLAY. The late Mr Thomas Gourlay, who passed away at Hawera on Sunday night, has been a x-esident of this town for the past 25 years. Born at Anstruther, Scotland, deceased came out to Australia when a young man to try his fortune in Melbourne, the x-eputed Eldorado of the South Seas. He, however, found that Australia did net come up to his expectations, and he left that country for the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. There he spent some time on the goldfields, but he eventually journeyed to Dunedin and took a position on the staff of a leading business fii-m. He remained in Dunedin for a few years, and then came to Hawera, where he commenced business as a tailor. This business he continued until six months ago, when he had to give it up on account of illhealth. Deceased, who was 80 years of age, and who was highly respected, leaves two nieces who reside in Hawera, and a nephew, Mr J. Angel, of Dunedin.
