AT THE BEACH
MANY ENJOY SURF BATHING
During the week-end there were very large crowds at Ohawe beach. The number of temporary residents has been increased largely by the influx of a considerable number of campers in various selected spots. The weather oyer the week-end was ideal, hot sunshine and clear skies being tempered by a nice cool sea breeze. The breakers tempted many, and it was a great sight is the afternoons to see the very large number of surfers, young and old. who thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to ‘disport themselves in the breakers. The stretches of sand made bathing very pleasant. Some of the beach residents took the opportunity of walking to various interesting spots. Two who went towarsd W.ailii had the unusual experience 'of capturing a young penguin, which was stranded on the shore. The river is x-apidly falling, and will probably soon regain its normal height. Eels are very numerous and young fishermen have caught quite a number. The Maoris say there are far more than usual, due probably to the heavy freshes experienced during the spring.
