MURDER CHARGE
V THE DROMOR.E TRAGEDY. MOTIVE WRAPPED \IN MYSTERY ALLEGED CONFESSION. 1 (BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) ASHBURTON, Jan. 2. The motive for the Dromore tragedy is a- mystery. Hodgson was known as being devoted to his family, being specially fond of the eldest boy. When Hodgson went to his wife’s room lie said: “I have killed Freddie.’’ On entering the boy’s room Mrs. Hodgson saw the body doubled up as though lie had been struggling. After awakening the household, Mrs. Hodgson rushed to a whare occupied by a farm worker, .1 as Maxwell, saying: “Tyson, lias killed Freddy.” Maxwell took charge of Hodgson at the whare. He says accused was fairly quiet, but kept muttering to himself. Maxwell savs that Hodgson muttered: “I killed Freddie. T went along and told Maud (his wife). Didn’t I do right ” Hodgson was quitej sober, but Maxwell says lie appeared to be demented at the time. Mrs. Johnston is a sister of Mrs. Hodgson. reported yesterday, Robert Tyson Hodgson cut the throat of his nine year old son from ear to ear.]
