The Times’ Rome correspondent says that the Italian Cabinet has suppressed practically the entire opposition press. This is obviously Mussolini’s reply to the publication of the Rossi memorandum. This new attempt to stifle criticism l\as caused widespread dissatisfaction, arid even supporters of the Government express doubts about the wisdom of the step. “Exceptional circumstances require exceptional measures,” declares Popolo d’ltalia, Mussolini’s personal organ. “It is not a question of stifling the opposition, but guarding the interests of the nation.”
