IN DIRE POVERTY. 1 . BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT LONDON, Dec. 30. The Jewish Historical Society has bought the medals belonging to Issy Smith, the first Jew to win the Victoria Cross in the Great War. Smith was forced to pawn all his medals for £2O owing to ill-health. The Chief Rabbi and others temporarily relieved him financially.
