VIOLENT SCENE
AT WHARF LABOURERS’
MEETING

- Received Dec. 31, 1.50'p.m. PERTH, Dec. 31. . A violent scene occurred at a meeting of the Wharf Labourers' Union which was discussing the Clan Munroe dilute. When the men, whose sympathies were with the seamen, expressed' their ■•• view- Cooks, a -watervigilance- officer, was howled down and attacked by three or four men. ' 'He "was simultaneously' kicked and trampled upon before the attackers were pulled off.
At the conclusion of the meeting union officials said it was remarkable that when those who spoke against working the Clan Munroe were stating their case they were subjected to much hostility. S'ome of them were unable to gain a hearing, yet when the matter was put to the vote the meeting declared in favour of working the boat. « The only conclusion they could- arrive at was that the men misunderstood the position and had voted contrary to their intentions. .
