THE CATTLE TICK.
EFFECTIVE AIKASIiHKS TAKEN: . NO NEED ITiK AFAKM. The advice received by Mr Ford,. Inspector of Stock at Hawera, shows that though the tick, which is the same variety “Ixodis riciiius,” Vas was repqrtml 011 by Mr. H. Reid, F.R.C.V.S., in; 1911, as present in North Auckland, has been found on one .or two cows near Waitara, it is confined to one; small locality between the road and the ocean in sandy, lupin country. This small area has been isolated, and most effective measures have been taken to confine the pest to this area. It will be remembered that a similar occurrence was reported from that district, a year or two ago. As stated by Dr. Reakes, who is in the district, the further south they come the less risk of illfeptiori thei - e is,. because they belong to tropical regions. Mr Ford says that spraying of cattle in, these areas and others adjoining may b e enforced, and if this .is the ease the result will be beneficial to all farmers. Meantime lie assures farmers that there is 110 need for alarm, as most careful nieasiires are being taken. >
