PALMERSTON N., Dec. 29. For the third day or the Man aw atn Racing Club's meeting to-day the weather was dull till before the fitth race, when a heavy downpour intervened, and continued at intervals. The track became very soft. There was a good attendance. The totalisator handled £35,932 against £35,526 oji the concluding day last year, the total ior the meeting being £123,981, compared with £122,965 last year. Results : Tiritea Hurdles Handicap, one mile and three-quarters.—AY’aioeka Jack (J. Nixon) 1, Demagogue (bracketed with the winner) 2, Little River 3. Also started: Bonifant, Kauaka. Won by ten lengths, half a length between second and third. Time, 3.19 4-5. Whitmore Hack Handicap, seven furlongs.—Potoanui (H. Dulieu) 1, Bonnie Nurse 2, All Gold 3. Torrential vain half-way through the day turned the track and enclosures at Awapuni yesterday into a. quagmire. In consequence the fprm of the last three races may not be of much (value except to index the mudlarkers. Speculation kept fairly brisk, the increase for the day being £406. There was an increase of £lOl6 on the meeting. Waioelra Jack, although he chanced nea'rly every fence, won the Tiritea Hurdles easily from his bracket mate Demagogue. The pair were at a shade of odds qn. Little River raced up to the leader, Waioeka Jack, four furlongs from home and then hit a fence, and afterwards refused to do his best. Bonifant and Kauaka ran poor races. Potoanui was a £l3 better favourite than Highway for the Whitmore Handicap, and won comfortably after being handy all the way. Bonnie Nurse, a stablemate of The Lark, finished well in second place. All Gold ran her best race for some time into third place. A r elvet King, Bonnie Gold aiui Highway, who finished next the placed horses, ran fairly well. Pantagruel, after being amongst the leaders at the the turn, stopped to a walk. Panim and La Reve were loft. Gaillard, at decided odds on, fought out a desperate finish with Lady Bentinck in the Juvenile Handicap. Fifty yards from the post Lady Bentinek had an advantage, but Gaillard came again to score by a narrow margin. Gold Box, after being handy to the turn, finished third six lengths behind Lady Bentinek. Phantasy, Orazone and Frivolous were all left, but Phantasy I ran up into fourth place. The Liverpool Handicap provided a great race. Fifty yards from the post Gaze, Star Ranger, Koodoo, Imperial Spark, Kilceit, Cleasanta and Santonio were all possibilities. Then Gaze shot out and won in good style, followed ; by the others in the order named, j Cleasanta and Kilceit were both unlucky in the running, and Kilceit in I addition was bhdiy ridden. Otherwise she might- have won. Sir Pam was left. Both the winner and runner up were at a good price. | The Westbury Handicap was run in torrential rain, which made the visibil- ; ity of the poorest. Ruby Ring, Miss j Odille and Luarne were prominent at the turn, and Ruby Ring went on to win easily by two lengths from Mountain Jean, who finished fast, Lipsol, who was prominent all the wav, fin-' ished fourth, and Huikni and Town Crier were next. Ruby. Ring was a good priced fourth favourite. Crossfire won the Clandeboyc Handi- | cap easily, but- if Helen Rufus had not I been left she would have won. Master I O’Rorke, running up to his first day’s I form, was a good second, while Mar- * tulla ran a consistent race into third place. Puketoi, Kilfaire and Helen ’- Rufus were all well' up behind the g placed horses. Crossfire was a comparative outsider.

Glument, well favoured by the soft track, made no race of the-Christmas AVelter, Hallmark and Hyama, the favourites, never being prominent. Attractive went an improved race and finished fourth, after being in or near the lead all the way. Bezau and Birthmark showed themselves a pair of good mudlarkers by filling the minor places after being aiways prominent. Bezau’s second dividend was better than that of the winner. Matin Bell ran an extraordinary race into fifth place. Dangle led all the way in the Kawau Handicap, not giving anything else a look in. Master Sandstone and Last Crust went in pursuit in the straight, but Master Sandstone got the nearest to the winner and he headed Last Crust in the run to the post. Startle, Finkrose and Some Red were, next. Last Crust was a good favourite, carrying twice as much money as the second favourite, Dangle. The Lamb, after jumping out well, most unaccountably failed to run on. “
